Wirral 2nd 40 Warrington 2nd 26
SKIPPER Andy Almond was pleased with his new recruits, despite Warrington suffering defeat at their Wirral counterparts on Saturday.
Defeat saw Warrington slip to third in North West League Division One on points difference.
“We suffered a bit of a steam-rollering up front,” said Almond. “But I was pleased with the way our new front row recruits stood up to the pressure and with the all-round effort of Josh Downes.”
Wirral took advantage of an inexperienced Warrington front row early on, but the visitors soon hit back down the blind side through Nathan Beesley, converted by Luke Wood.
Wood added a try of his own, with a further two scores for Ben Hockenhull, but Warrington were unable to stop Widnes securing the win.
