Crewe Vagrants Ladies 0 Lymm Ladies 1

LYMM ladies remain top of North Women’s Hockey League Division Two South thanks to a single effort from Megan Wilkin that made the difference at Crewe Vagrants on Saturday.

The first half saw the ball transferred expertly around the back line, switching play with precision and pace.

Lymm’s efforts were rewarded with a goal which came from the right when Nat Riley played a ball across the D for Wilkin to pick up and finish emphatically, continuing a prolific spell for the striker.

Riley was unlucky not to add a second, when she picked up a through ball from Hollie and turned quickly to unleash a back foot shot just wide of the post.

The second half was tighter as Crewe looked to try and get back into the game by hitting Lymm on the break, but the home side held on for the win.

Lymm visit Bowdon on Saturday.

SECOND-placed Lymm Ladies seconds kept up their charge for the top spot in Cheshire Women’s League Division Two with a win over Crewe Vagrants.

A cagey first half saw Lymm go behind early on before Cerys Anderson brought the scores level at the break.

Two more goals for Crewe in the second half had the hosts worried, but doubles for player-of-the-match Alison Fearn and Helen Senior secured the win.

Lymm Ladies seconds continue their title bid when they host neighbours Warrington Ladies’ first team on Saturday.

* WARRINGTON seconds put in a heroic performance against table-toppers Runcorn and were disappointed not to come away with the points.

Mike Vickers put Warrington into the lead with a great finish into the top corner, but Runcorn pressed hard for an equaliser and then a winner, despite the best efforts of Geoff Stott to keep the defence strong.

Mike Jones and Ben Vickers linked up well for the men’s first team, each bagging a goal as they lost 4-2 at Urmston.

Sally Fraser and Sally Froggatt led the attack as the women’s first team battled hard with only 10 players against Macclesfield, but could not stop their side losing 3-1.

The women’s seconds produced Warrington’s only win of the weekend, with goals from Emma Peters, Becky Miller and Sarah Gregson helping them to a 3-0 success.
