YOUNGSTERS from Warrington Athletics Club scooped gold medals in the English Cross Country Relay Championships on Saturday.

The club’s under 17s women’s team of Katy Lowery, Sarah McGrail and Harriet Knowles-Jones came home in first place in 26mins 44secs.

Lowery, who recently joined from Macclesfield, was only given clearance to compete for the club in team competitions from November 1 but finished the first stage in fifth place.

McGrail’s time of 9mins 36secs maintained this spot, before handing over for Knowles-Jones to move through the field and clinch gold with a run of 8mins 19secs.

The B team of Jasmin Dobson,Olivia Bush and Kiera Grady followed up in 40th place in 31mins 49secs.

In the under 13s girls race, India Hayes, Lydia Blair and Lucia Meloni finished 30th in a total time of 24mins 35secs, while Jack Stubbings, Luke Gamble and Sam Rostron took 16th in the under 15s boys.

Warrington were unable to complete teams in the men’s under 20s and under 17s com In the under 17s and under 20 Men’s races, but saw Daniel Evans record the10th fastest time of the under 17s race with 9mins17secs and Owen Lee clock 10mins 2secs.

In the under 20s race, Cameron Field finished in 9mins 19secs, while Liam Burthem took over and came in one second slower.

WARRINGTON'S former Great Britain marathon runner Andy Green moved top of the V50 rankings after a time of 32mins 47secs in the Cheshire 10k at Arley Hall.

Former European 3000m Indoor champion Helen Clitheroe went third in the UK National 10k rankings with a season’s best of 32.44, the record time by a Vet 40 runner in the UK., while Altrincham AC's Mohammad Abu Rezeq ran 29mins 11secs to break the men's record.

A Guinness World Record was set by James Bailey, who ran 40mins 50secs dressed as a postman with a 5kg weight on his back.
