Wirral 17 Lymm 46

LYMM renewed their longstanding rivalry with newly-promoted Wirral during a convincing away win in RFU National League Three North on Saturday.

The opening minutes of the game were all Wirral after Lymm spilt the kick-off and invited immediate pressure from the home side.

However, when Lymm finally got their first chance they were clinical and Cormac Nolan put the visitors into the lead.

Lymm kept up the pressure and registered a penalty on 22 minutes to reduce the deficit to 5-3, after Luke Emmitt was carded for an over-exuberant tackle.

Lymm kicked on with 14 men and despite a first try from Wirral, scores from Tom Baker and Sam Mullarkey made it 22-10 at half time.

Following in a similar vein to Lymm in the first half, Wirral made a hash of the kick off and Andy Rowley took advantage of some heavy pressure from the visitors.

A Nolan penalty on 52 minutes extended the lead to 22 points and then moments later Tom Bray combined brilliantly with Emmitt to put Nolan through between the posts.

The final Lymm try was scored on 65 minutes when Rowley put Baker between the sticks from a quick lineout and a consolation try for Wirral completed the scoring.

Lymm head coach Adam Fletcher was delighted with the win and said it was all down to his side's game plan.

Fletcher said: "We stuck to our game plan which was really pleasing, solid defence combined with speed, purpose and flair in attack."

Lymm Junior Colts drew 22-22 at Altrincham Kersal thanks to tries from Ciaran Finn, Matt Barker, Chris Twigg and Drew Fray. One conversion from Matt Barker.
