Warrington 42 Eccles 8

WARRINGTON gained a bonus point win in their first home game of the North One West campaign on Saturday.

After the two sides came together to hold a minute’s silence in honour of Eccles resident Alan Henning, the game was underway and Eccles put the first points on the board with a converted penalty.

The home side responded with a Luke Wood penalty, before the full back further increased Warrington’s lead with a second penalty after an Eccles player had been sin-binned.

Warrington then exploited their numerical advantage when Steve Pilkington went over in the corner before Wood converted and added another penalty from halfway on the stroke of half time.

Andy Roberts kept up the home side’s momentum after the break, going over five minutes into the half and leaving Wood with an easy conversion.

Eccles showed some resilience and posted a try of their own before Warrington hit back via Kieron Hughes.

Steve Pilkington then got on the end of a Wood kick to claim the try and secure the bonus points for Warrington before veteran Tony Fretwell finished off the scoring.

Warrington will make the trip to Birkenhead Park on Saturday, 3pm kick off.
