ANDREW Bentley finished second in a historic car race after being overtaken on the final lap.

Bentley, of Lymm, was second on the grid and had company from Warrington's Martin Richardson, in pole position, in the MG Car Club’s ecurie GTS Challenge at Oulton Park on Saturday.

After the first lap, Bentley overtook Richardson and then the pair started to pull away from their nine chasers.

However, on lap nine Richardson dropped out concerned about a knocking noise coming from the engine.

Bentley held the lead for the following eight laps but a faster Triumph TR4 in second place passed him on the final lap, leaving Bentley second by 0.281 seconds.
