WARRINGTON Athletics Club’s longest standing record has been smashed by young sprinter Fisayo Williamson-Taylor.

His 23.09secs to finish second in a 200m heat at the England Athletics Under 17s and Under 15s Championships beat the previous best 23.6secs held jointly since 1964 by Peter Cornes and John Harrison, who went on to run the 100m at the 1970 Commonwealth Games.

The new record holder crossed the line fourth in the under 15s final in 23.1secs, but did win a bronze medal on the Bedford track.

After finishing second in his 100m heat in 11.28secs, he was third in the final in 11.40secs.

Under 17s competitor Cameron Meakin finished fifth in his 100m hurdles heat, recording 14.02secs, but missed out on the final.
