ST OSWALDS A were celebrating at the end of two finals staged at Woolston Royal British Legion on Saturday.

They achieved victory over St Benedicts B in Warrington Catholic Bowls League's JG Bates Trophy Final, while the club's Academy team defeated Sacred Heart to win the organisation's Challenge Cup Final St Benedict's B had got off to a good start, bagging the first four wins in the JG Bates Trophy showdown.

But man-of-the-match Ron Bell joined Brian Lawton in winning 15-4, and with Chris Naylor, 15-5, securing another big success it put St Oswalds A into a lead they held on to when the last four games were all tight affairs.

St Oswalds Academy, featuring players aged 15 to 20, outplayed Sacred Heart to secure a league and cup double.

The Section B table toppers had nine winners, with Liam Sullivan being man of the match with his 15-8 card.

Mark Pearson was Sacred Heart’s best winner with 15-5.
