Division One: Knowsley South 1 v Cromwell 1

The season started with a meeting between the division two and three runaway champions. The first thirty mins of the game had both sides testing each other without creating any clear chances of note. The first opportunities fell to Knowsley but shots were blocked by Cromwell’s defence. Just before half time the deadlock was broken. A long ball from the Cromwell centre half looked to be going straight to the Knowsley keeper, but the ball was knocked out of the keepers hands and rolled into any empty net! Half time 0-1. Despite Knowsley dominate possession the equaliser came courtesy of an Elias strike low into the bottom corner on his debut.

Division One: Sankey Vale 0 Grange 2

League newcomers Sankey Vale’s campaign started with a tight game against Grange with the more experienced side having the better chances, although they were denied a place on the score sheet in the first half with some outstanding saves by Sankey’s keeper Brad White. Grange took the lead after 73 mins with a free kick collected by Danny Dobbs and finished in off the post. Grange’s 2nd goal came with 7 mins remaining courtesy of Jake Shaw. Sankey had a penalty saved with 3 mins to go.

Division Two: Runcorn Albion 7 Daten 3rd 0

A good game played by both teams with the score only 1 nil to the home side at half time. Daten were reduced to 10 men in the second half and had to work hard to contain Albion. However, Albion’s extra man showed in the end.

Division 3: Burtonwood Albion Res 1 Woolston Rovers FC 6

An emphatic start to the season saw Woolston run out 6-1 winners over the home side. The first goal for Woolston came after 7 minutes, with the second just before half time with captain Connor Singleton’s first of a 5-goal haul. Woolston extended their lead after 66 minutes and a glut of goals in the latter part of the game saw Woolston’s advantage grow, although Burtonwood’s number 10 collected a consolation goal in the 83rd minute. Despite the score line, it was an exciting game with both teams playing smart passing football, and creating plenty of goal scoring opportunities

Division Four: Parklands 4 Penketh Utd 1

The home side opened the scoring through Tom Freeman who slotted home from ten yards. The first half was very much end to end football as both clubs attacked with pace, and the score remained 1-0 at half time. In the second half Parklands doubled their lead with Buckley getting on the score sheet. Penketh hit back soon after when a free kick was converted by a back post tap in. Parklands’ Aaron Timmis managed to beat two defenders and the Penketh keeper to make it 3-1. Parklands substitute Paul Hughes made an immediate impact, by scoring their fourth to put the game out of Penketh’s reach
