WARRINGTON’S love of motorsport was demonstrated at Oulton Park’s Race Day at the weekend with five drivers racing for honours.

Brothers David and Tom McArthur were racing identical cars in the Formula Ford 1600 Northern Championship with David the current leader of the Class Championship.

In the first of two races, David started and finished in third for a place on the podium while Tom started from fifth and finished in sixth place.

In race two, David started from third and lost a place on the first lap until the penultimate lap when he gained the place back.

On the next (and last) lap, the leading car retired with a broken wheel followed by David getting the lead and ending up a surprise race winner.

Brother Tom meanwhile had tangled with another car on lap two and was out of the race.

Lymm’s Phil Nelson was racing a historic (pre-1984) Formula Ford and came 16th overall, but first in his class, and remained leader of his Class Championship overall.

Also racing were Michael Goodacre in a Porsche Boxter and Barry Armstrong, from Lymm, in a Jedi single-seater.
