CLUB captain Chris Mellor insists Woolston Rovers need to raise their game at Hindley on Saturday after an inconsistent spell.

Rovers travel to Wigan for the National Conference League Division Three fixture, looking to end a run of six defeats that has seen them slip out of the play-off places.

Mellor said: “We have been far too inconsistent for most of the season but now is the time that we have to all raise our game and ensure that we can get back to winning ways.

“We have suffered through not having a settled side but hopefully we should be back to something close to full strength for what promises to be a hard fought game.

“We beat Hindley at home in May in what was very even until the closing quarter. We were only two points ahead but scored three quick tries to pull clear and register a fine win.

“If we can repeat that performance on Saturday we will give ourselves a great chance of getting the vital two points.”

Rovers then face Bank Quay Bulls in the Warrington Carlsberg Cup final, kick off 7.30pm, at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Wednesday.

Assistant coach Danny Halliwell added: “It should be a great occasion and one that we will be looking to perform at our best. Bank Quay have plenty of quality all over the park, as we do, so it should be a cracking game.”

Rovers A host Wigan St Patricks A on Saturday in the NWML Division Two, kick off 2.30pm at Monks Sports Club.
