Billinge FC 2 Eagle Sports 5

EAGLE Sports recorded their second Cheshire Football League win of the season with a convincing victory at Billinge FC.

The away side have struggled over recent years when travelling to their opponents and came into the game knowing that a battle was on their hands.

This showed early on with some panicked play from both sides and tackles flying about. However, it was the away side that struck first when Danny Burthem pressed the Billinge defender, causing the home side to make a mistake.

This resulted in the ball making its way to Stuart Wellstead, who provided the cross for Jay Waldron to finish with his left foot into the bottom corner.

The away side began to dominate and doubled their lead when a Lee Boardman corner was easily converted by captain Craig Hall into the net, with the home side's marking questionable.

Eagle continued to take the game to the hosts and grabbed a third when the Billinge goalkeeper made a mistake when he was well out of his box, leaving Lee Boardman to casually chip the ball over the defenders and into the empty net.

Before the half time break however, Billinge came back into the game and got their goal right on half time when the Eagle defence failed to deal with a corner, leaving the Billinge centre back to smash the ball past Neil McDermott, giving the home side hope for the second half.

The home side came out after the break with a positive attitude and got themselves further back in the game when the ball squirmed through the Eagle defence and the striker finished well past McDermott to make it 3-2 to the visitors.

From then on, However, Eagle began to assert their dominance again but were missing key chances, with Tomo Lees and Lee Boardman both guilty of missing one-on-one chances.

They did, however, get the crucial goal with around 10 minutes remaining when, following good work from Burthem on the right hand side, Stuart Wellstead cut inside and fired a shot with his left foot which wrong footed the goalkeeper to restore Eagle’s two-goal advantage.

From then on, the game was over really and the away side added a fifth goal when a short corner routine lead to Nathan Williams whipping a great cross to the back post for Richard Chinn to head home.

A comfortable win in the end for Rob Hope's side despite some nervy moments early in the second half.
