WARRINGTON continued their assault on the top half of the Cheshire County Division Two table with a win by six wickets against Irby on Saturday.

The hosts invited Irby to bat and their seam attack kept the visiting batsmen in check with Ashley Scholes taking 2 for 23 and Kyle Adams 1 for 48.

But it was the introduction of spin bowler Barrie McIntosh, 5 for 35, that saw Warrington make serious inroads into the Irby batting.

Sam Pennington, 2 for 21, then claimed two late wickets as Irby were bowled out in the last over for 170.

Chasing a modest total opener Chris Kirby, 73no, anchored the innings after the loss of two early wickets and Barrie McIntosh, 26, helped restore some balance.

But the fourth wicket stand of 83 between Kirby and Liam Heaphy, 39, put Warrington on the brink of victory as they coasted home with seven overs spare.

Oxton 2nd 155 all out Warrington 2nd 115all out Oxton won by 40 runs Warrington second were beaten by 40 runs at Oxton, despite skittling the hosts for 155.

The wickets were shared between Joe Quinn, 3 for 15, Rishav Manta, 3 for 38, and Isaac Webster, 2 for 29.

Warrington’s batsmen were unable to impose themselves with Simon Swain, 22, and Joe Quinn, 20, top scoring as they were surprisingly bowled out for 115.

Neston 3rd 270-4 Warrington 3rd 230-3 Warrington thirds were held to a draw in their fixture with Neston.

The hosts’ batsmen dominated the bowling attack and posted 270 for the loss of only four wickets. Alan Hitchmough, 2 for 51, and Mans Naseem, 2 for 78, were the only bowlers to register.

A solid start from openers Steve Roberts, 28, and Tim Rothwell, 32, set the tone but Warrington could never match the run rate and it was left to James Lewis, 82no, and Alan Hitchmough, 53no, to bat out a draw.

Les Connolley stepped up for Warrington fourths with 5 for 56 from 12 overs, finding support in leg spinner Dave Lee, 4 for 33, at the other end as Haslington were dismissed in the 23rd over for 127.

Despite Connolley’s 46 and Paul Agar’s 23, a middle-order collapse saw Warrington fall short on 120.
