Rylands Sharks 36 Leigh Miners 32

A HAT-trick of tries from Sam Hughes and Jack Lewis’ 100 per cent conversion rate secured Sharks an enthralling victory over Division Two leaders Leigh Miners.

The second-rower scored twice in the first half, running a great line to sidestep the Miners fullback to score between the posts before a similar run and stretch over the line.

The Miners had previously built a 10-point advantage, but good off load play by Sharks sent prop Rob Campbell crashing over, quickly followed by a break from fullback Luke Walker to set up Jack Sherratt.

Winger Matt Robman scored before half time but after the break Garth Paine’s converted try reduced the their deficit.

It was quickly reinstated when Miners allowed Sharks’ Luke Walker to kick through a loose ball, collect and race home.

Miners prop Darryl Appleb’s converted made it 30-26 and with five minutes remaining the visitors took the lead.

With the referee checking his watch the speed of hooker Dave Walker found a gap for Hughes to collect his third try and the win.
