Garswood United 2
Rylands 2

RYLANDS produced an excellent performance to hold title hopefuls Garswood in the Cheshire League’s top tier on Saturday.

The away side were missing several first team regulars, but still managed to put two goals past opponents who had proved too strong in the JB Parker Challenge Cup final the previous week.

All the action came in the second half, kicked off by Lee Deakin converting from the penalty spot after he had been fouled.

The visitors failed to clear a Garswood corner on 65 minutes, allowing Luke Faulkner to smuggle in the loose ball.

Ben Slater put Rylands ahead again soon afterwards before Danny Clarke’s fluke cross with a quarter of an hour left caught out stand-in goalkeeper Matty Latham wrong-to restore parity a second time for the hosts.

“I thought the whole squad were outstanding and it is a measure of how well we played that we were disappointed not to have taken three points” said Rylands boss Dave Parr.

“Garswood are a strong side, but I thought we defended well when required and created great opportunities on the counter.”

Rylands: Latham, Parr, Sinker, Prescott, Tebb, Duffy, Hayes, Slater, Deakin, Bell (Rodgers), Smith (Dermody).
