Ossett Albion 1 Warrington Town 2
SUPER sub Ash Ruane scored deep into injury time to secure a smash and grab 2-1 win for Warrington Town at bottom of the league Ossett Albion.
Ciaran Kilheeney gave Warrington the lead midway through the first half, with the Ossett keeper in fine form to keep the scoreline to just 0-1 at the break having saved well from Scott Metcalfe and point blank from a Kilheeney header.
Missing skipper David Mannix and central defender Jay McCarten through injury and with on-loan Stockport Sports defender Richard Annan making his debut, the home side - winners of just two games all season - looked dangerous on the break and had a strong penalty appeal turned down.
Just before half time Aaron Bowen had an effort cleared off the line, while Ossett rasped a shot just past the post.
At the start of the second half Town keeper Josh Ollerenshaw saved well as the home side looked to get back into the game.
Warrington then had a strong penalty appeal turned down when Carlos Meakin was pulled in the box after a good through ball from Metcalfe.
With the game opening up, the home side eventually drew level when Thompson mis-kicked a clearance to allow Ben Grech-Brooksbank to fire home on 67 minutes.
Sensing a rare victory the home side stepped up the pressure, with Ollerenshaw again saving well.
With time running out, manager Shaun Reid brought Liam Dawson off for Ruane.
With moments of injury time remaining Ossett missed a golden chance to steal three points, before themselves feeling the sting of conceding a late goal.
Meakin crossed, Wharton hit the post and Ruane tapped in to the delight of the travelling fans as Warrington, perhaps fortunately, returned home with all three points.
