FREE-scoring Trafford had notched 15 goals in two games previous to this trip to Warrington, meaning that Shaun Reid’s new-look defence handled their potent visitors well by only conceding one goal.

That is particularly true considering the loss of captain Peter Dogan in the second half and that they were playing against the league’s in-form striker Michael Oates, who had scored nine of his side’s 15 goals.

In fact, Town may be frustrated that they were unable to take all three points from this encounter, taking the lead within the opening five minutes when Lee McEvilly chipped through for Phil Mooney to tap in.

Goal chances dried up for both sides until late in the first half, when Trafford’s lively winger Kamahl Whight almost set up Paul Ashton for a back-post tap-in.

Ten minutes of the second half had passed when Dogan was taken to hospital, but Town were able to sustain a good level of performance and looked unlikely to concede until a lapse in concentration allowed Steve Mason to get free and head home a corner to ensure a share of the spoils.
