WARRINGTON Town’s youth team capped off a successful first season in the North West Youth Alliance with cup glory at the weekend.

They overcame an early injury blow to defeat FC United 4-1 and lift the Neil Thomason Premier Division Cup.

Influential captain George Emson landed awkwardly and badly damaged ankle ligaments after only 20 minutes.

Three minutes later James Daniels struck a free-kick inside the defensive wall to beat the scrambling keeper.

The lead was doubled when James Anderson headed home from a corner in the 39th minute.

United pulled a goal back after a free-kick was given away.

Arguably the game hinged on Tony Vaughan pulling off a terrific flying save in the 73rd minute, after which Town imposed themselves on the game.

Dylan Glass shot home from close range to make it 3-1 with 15 minutes left.

Ben McWilliams helped a ball on for Glass to break free of the defence and confidently chip the keeper from 20 yards in the last minute.

Town: Vaughan, Kavanagh, Corcoran, Emson (Cook 20mins), Everson, Winrow, Wells, Daniels, Glass, Bakkor (Chambers 65mins), Anderson (McWilliams 85mins). Subs not used: Bandell, Gordon. Reserve: Bibby.
