WARRINGTON Town’s fixture backlog continues to grow after their Cheshire Senior Cup tie at Winsford United was postponed for a third time.

The pitch at St Lukes Barton Stadium was deemed unplayable after a 4pm inspection, meaning the wait to play a game that was initially scheduled for January 8 may now stretch into February.

A frozen pitch caused the first postponement, while the rearranged game on January 15 had to be scrapped due to Yellows’ FA Trophy tie against Ebbsfleet United going to a replay.

This follows hot on the heels of Town’s league game against Hednesford Town on Saturday being called off due to a waterlogged Cantilever Park pitch.

Their scheduled home game against Shaw Lane on February 3 will also have to be rearranged as Yellows travel to Wealdstone in the FA Trophy that day, while a replay in that game would mean the postponement of their trip to Matlock Town the following Tuesday.

With Town still in three cup competitions – their Doodson Cup clash with Lancaster City is currently slated for Tuesday, January 30 – Paul Carden’s men have a minimum of 24 competitive games to play between now and the end of April.

Their next fixture sees them travel to Evo-Stik Premier Division leaders Altrincham on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
