Warrington Town 1-3 Coalville Town

WARRINGTON Town were brought back down to earth with a bump as they slumped to a 3-1 home defeat against Coalville Town.

Following the midweek comeback at Altrincham in the FA Trophy, the Yellows were made to rue three more points dropped in the league in their final game before Christmas.

A brace for Tom McGlinchey and a late back post header from Daniel Creaney helped the visitors to a comfortable win as the home side struggled to create any chances of note, before Jamie McDonald’s late consolation.

Coalville started brightly and ultimately, it would set the tone for the match as the Yellows never really awoke from their early slumber.

Save for a deflected Tony Gray shot on 10 minutes, the Yellows struggled to create any in the final third and the warnings were there at the other end early doors, most notably on 12 minutes when Rory McKeown somehow saved a goal by diverting a shot over the bar after Tony McMillan had been beaten.

McKeown couldn’t do anything about the opening goal just after the half hour mark, again he was left as the last man after McMillan was beaten, and this time McGlinchey shot through his legs from 10 yards.

The killer blow came four minutes in to the second half when McGlinchey curled in his second to give Coalville a two-goal cushion that was barely threatened.

The low-lying fog that looked like threatening the completion in the game in the opening 45 minutes started to subside, as did the Yellows hopes of getting anything from this game.

Dylan Vassallo’s free-kick took a wicked bounce and was well-tipped over by Matthew Coton, and Vassallo also hit over when well placed on the half volley from a Sean Williams cross.

But salt was rubbed in to the Warrington wounds late on as Daniel Creaney headed home unmarked at the back post from a corner, and McDonald’s late goal was scant consolation for a disappointing display to kick-off the festive period.

Warrington are back in action at Witton Albion on Boxing Day.
