WARRINGTON Town have signed experienced midfielder Steve Jennings on loan from Southport.

The 33-year-old, best known for his numerous spells with Tranmere Rovers, has agreed a loan deal to remain at Cantilever Park until January.

Jennings is eligible to make his Yellows debut in tomorrow’s home game against Sutton Coldfield Town.

"Jenno is a player I know well and the opportunity to sign him was too good to turn down," Yellows boss Paul Carden said.

"He’s a leader and will be brilliant for us not only in the pitch but in the dressing room too."

The deal sees forward Josh Hine move the other way to join the Sandgrounders on a permanent deal.

Hine had arrived from Salford City in the summer but joins the National League North side having scored four goals for Yellows.

Carden says Southport-born Hine was keen to take the chance to join his hometown club.

"Josh’s former agent is now the owner of Southport and asked about his availability," he said.

"Josh expressed a desire to join as they are his hometown club and they are going full time.

"We wish him good luck for the future."

Midfielder Ged Kinsella also temporarily departs Cantilever Park as he joins Evo-Stik First Division North side Droylsden on loan.

Kinsella is one of only two players from the Yellows squad that won promotion to the Evo-Stik Premier Division in 2015-16 to still be with the club, with skipper Jay McCarten being the other.
