WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden is under no illusions that his side face a tough test in order to reach the next round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

They welcome Evo-Stik First Division North leaders Bamber Bridge to Cantilever Park in the first qualifying round, with the game kicking off at 3pm.

Yellows have only gone past this stage of the FA Trophy twice since 2008, with Carden's first game in charge being a first qualifying round loss to Nantwich on October 29 last year.

Prior to a defeat at Ossett Town on Saturday, Saturday’s visitors were unbeaten in 12 games in all competitions.

However, Carden confirmed his Yellows side would be giving it their all to go as far as they can in the competition.

“It’s a competition that has seen clubs like ourselves do really well and go far, so we’ll be looking to do that,” he said.

“They are always a decent side. They always seem to compete at whatever level they are at so we know it will be a tough game.

“There are no easy games anymore, but they become easier if we do the things we’re good at.

“If we go away from the plan and the detail we’ve gone through, life will become harder for us.”

Yellows go into the game on the back of a 2-1 loss at Buxton on Tuesday night, which followed Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Evo-Stik Premier Division leaders Altrincham.

Tuesday’s defeat was the sixth time this season Town have dropped points in a midweek fixture as opposed to only failing to win twice on a Saturday.

Yellows, third in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, travel to Nantwich Town on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.

Carden says is mystified by his side’s poor midweek form and says he may look at changes to their routine.

“It’s something we’ve definitely have to look at. We’ve dropped too many points on a Tuesday night and there has to be a reason why,” he said.

“Maybe it is a coincidence, maybe sometimes in football you look at too many things.

“At this level of football, there’s not much more you can do to prepare.

“All we can do is make sure they cool down after the game on the Saturday and trust them to prepare right for the Tuesday.

“There isn’t loads you can do, but we do maybe need to look at different things that can be done if there are any.”
