PAUL Carden said Lancaster City “could not live with” his Warrington Town side as they thrashed their visitors 5-1 at Cantilever Park.

James Barrigan, Liam Goulding, Sean Williams, Caleb Richards and Jamie McDonald were all on the scoresheet for Yellows as they climbed to second in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Report: Yellows 5 Lancaster 1

The result means they have bounced back from last Tuesday’s loss to Stourbridge by the same scoreline with back-to-back victories and Carden says that game is now well and truly out of their system.

“I think we were well worthy of winning that game and I’m delighted for everyone because it was a big team performance,” he said.

“Saturday was about getting a result and getting the Stourbridge game out of our system.

“Tonight was about marrying a result and a performance and I think we did that.

“From the first minute, we were aggressive in our closing down, we played in their half and they couldn’t live with us at times.”

Home debutant McDonald and Wigan Athletic loanee Barrigan put in superb performances in attack for Town, with both deservedly adding their names to the scoresheet.

The Yellows boss says their partnership will only grow more dangerous in time.

“That’s what a bit of hunger and youthfulness can do at times,” he said.

“You can see what the new guys add in terms of energy and fitness is massive.

“The more they play together and the more they get used to the team, the more goals they will score.

“Jamie did great earlier on and hit the post, but the goal he did score was superb. He’s got that hunger and desire about him as well as a rawness and aggression.

“Those two centre-halves tonight won’t have come up against anyone like him this season.”
