Warrington Town 5 Lancaster City 1

YELLOWS made it back-to-back league wins as they comfortably dispatched Lancaster City at Cantilever Park to move up to second in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Goals from James Barrigan and Liam Goulding had put Paul Carden’s side two goals to the good at the break before Sean Williams and Caleb Richards struck after it either side of an Oliver Wood consolation for the visitors.

Jamie McDonald rounded off the scoring in injury time on his home debut.

Yellows started very brightly, with Barrigan and Jamie McDonald’s pace causing Lancaster’s defence problems before the latter gave them the lead.

McDonald, in an offside position, left Jay McCarten’s long ball but Barrigan was alert, sprinted beyond the defence before lifting the ball over the advancing Josh Powell in the visiting goal.

Lancaster responded and Charlie Bailey’s free kick was deflected towards goal, but Yellows stopper Tony McMillan produced a comfortable save.

Indeed, Town had the better chances and could arguably have been further ahead.

Barrigan cleared the bar after getting on the end of McDonald’s flick before McCarten’s header from a Sean Williams free kick forced Powell into a low save.

However, the City keeper was helpless to prevent Goulding doubling the lead with 10 minutes of the half remaining.

After Josh Hine had powered into the Lancaster half and squared the ball into his path, Goulding produced an excellent low finish.

Barrigan fired another effort just wide as Yellows smelt blood, but Lancaster avoided further damage before the break.

After Barrigan had just failed to connect with Hine’s floated cross, Williams added a third goal in spectacular style.

A set piece was cleared to the edge of the penalty area, from where the midfielder volleyed home his seventh goal of the season.

McDonald saw his shot come crashing back off the post before Yellows’ vulnerability from set-pieces was exposed again.

A corner was swung in from the left and substitute Wood flicked it home at the near post.

However, Town responded in ideal fashion when Richards flicked a cross goalwards and it went through Powell’s feeble attempt of a save.

McDonald finally marked his home debut with a deserved goal in injury time as he clinically finished from inside the area.
