PAUL Carden is confident Warrington Town will go into the new season in the way he wants to – on the attack.

Six of his seven new signings featured at North West Counties side Barnton as Yellows got their pre-season campaign off to a 3-0 winning start last night.

He is content with the way his new-look side is working and gelling ahead of further warm-up games at Runcorn Town on Saturday, kick off 2pm, and home to Wrexham on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.

Former Worcester City winger Connor Hughes bagged two of the goals on his debut.

“It was pleasing the amount of chances we actually created that were blocked on the line or brought out good saves from the keeper,” said Carden.

“We must have had 10 shots on target in the first half, without the goals. When you’re doing that you’re always going to score goals and that was always the aim – to produce an attacking team that will cause problems and score goals and I think we’ve got that now.”

Tony Gray, Josh Hine, Shaun Beeley, Liam Goulding and Joe Mwasile all caught the eye on their first appearances in a yellow shirt as Carden called on 18 players, including some reserves and trialists.

Another new recruit, Jack Higgins, is a few weeks away from playing due to recovering from an injury, while Jay McCarten is likely to figure on Saturday after returning from holiday yesterday, Wednesday.

“All in all players got 45 minutes and then did a further 15 minutes of running so they had a good 60 minutes of work. That’s what the aim is, to keep building up fitness, the togetherness, the understanding of each other and how we want to do things,” said Carden.

“Good players quickly adapt to one another. It still takes a little bit of time, but they’re all familiar to each other. The minute you see lads in training and can see what they’re about you quickly pick up that the players we’ve brought in are good players. It’s an easier thing for lads to get on and gel when they’ve all got one thing in common – they’ve all got ability.”
