Whitby Town 2 Warrington Town 2

WARRINGTON Town’s chances of a play-off finish are all but over after twice surrendering the lead against top-five rivals Whitby.

Dan Hattersley scored twice at the Turnbull Ground, but defensive errors allowed Dale Hopson and Matthew Tymon to earn the Seasiders a point.

Hattersley was a late inclusion in the side after Ruben Jerome pulled out with an injury and he justified Paul Carden’s decision to start him after just nine minutes.

After winning a free kick, he met Sean Williams’ delivery with a superb header to give Yellows the lead.

Whitby pressured for an equaliser, with Steve Snaith and Callum Martin both going close while Scott Bakkor had a shot blocked at the other end.

Yellows held the lead at half time, but the hosts were level five minutes after the restart when substitute Adam Carden slipped at the crucial moment, allowing Hopson in the score his 25th goal of the season.

However, Town snatched the lead back just three minutes later when Hattersley sent a superb overhead kick into the net.

Warrington started to up the ante as they sought a killer third goal, with Michael Bakare blazing over the bar when well-placed.

At the other end, Evan Gumbs was forced to clear a header off the line before another mistake allowed Whitby to equalise.

This time Josh Askew was the culprit and Hopson bore down on goal. He lifted the ball over Tony McMillan but off the post, with Tymon burying the rebound.

Warrington Town: McMillan, Duggan, Askew (Monaghan), Williams (Carden), McCarten, Gumbs, Vassallo, Smart, Hattersley, Bakkor, Bakare (Harries). Subs not used: Codling, Shaw.
