PAUL Carden says he is proud of what his Warrington Town squad has achieved since his arrival, no matter what becomes of their race for a play-off place.

With three games of the season remaining, Yellows are four points outside the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s top five.

Two of those games come this weekend as they travel to play-off rivals Whitby Town on Saturday before hosting Ashton United on Monday, both kick offs 3pm.

Their fate will be decided this weekend and Carden thinks a little more time with his much-changed squad could have made all the difference.

He has also called on his players to keep fighting until the very end regardless of what may or may not be at stake.

“If someone told me when I came in that we’d still be in with a chance of the play-offs with three games left, I’d have snapped their hand off,” he said.

“We’ve taken 31 points from the past 15 games. The squad is so young and they have come a long way.

“We have had a big turnover of players and they are just starting to gel. Maybe if we’d have had a bit more time with them, things would have been different.

“It has been a big ask but none of them have shirked the challenge. That makes me very proud.

“I want us to finish as high as we can so we want to win all of our remaining games. If we do that, we’ll see where that takes us.”

Ahead of a busy weekend, Carden will run the rule over skipper Jay McCarten’s fitness as he nurses an ankle knock.

However, the Yellows boss says striker Kurt Sherlock’s season is over after he picked up a shoulder injury.

On Saturday, Town travel to a Whitby side that are unbeaten in their past nine league matches.

Several of their wins, including Tuesday’s 1-0 success at Mickleover, have been won by late goals but Carden believes none of that is down to luck.

“If you keep attacking and putting pressure on teams, you are going to get your rewards and that’s what Whitby have done,” he said.

“People say they have been lucky but I don’t subscribe to that.

“We’re expecting a tough game but I think they are too. We need to make sure we give them as tough a time as possible.”
