PAUL Carden wants his Warrington Town side to keep their play-off fate in their own hands by beating Stafford Rangers on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

With four games of the Evo-Stik Premier Division season remaining, Yellows are one of several teams fighting for places in the league’s top five.

Despite having played more games than all of their rivals, Carden’s side know they will finish in the play-off places if they pick up maximum points from their remaining games.

The Yellows boss admits the race is likely to go down to the wire but believes that suits his side just fine.

“We can only concentrate on ourselves. We can’t worry about what other teams are doing,” he said.

“In the past few weeks, I’ve been asking others what the scores have been but if we keep winning it doesn’t matter.

“Other teams have had games in hand on us so they could afford to drop a few points, but now it’s become crucial they don’t lose those games.

“I’ve always felt this race will go right to the end but we’ve got a never-say-die attitude about us.

“We keep going right until the end of games. We will always do that and it’s vital that we do that between now and the end of the season.”

Yellows’ latest test comes on Saturday when they welcome Stafford Rangers, a side firmly entrenched in mid-table, to Cantilever Park.

The original game between the sides was abandoned shortly after half time in December with Rangers leading 2-0.

Carden says his side have to be wary of a visiting side motivated by the will to finish the job they started earlier in the season.

“I don’t think they will have changed much. They will still be a very direct and physical side.

“It’s fair to say we were saved by the weather last time. We weren’t very good on the day.

“They will be aggrieved about how the last game ended and will be keen to finish the job.

“What I do know is that we are a completely different team than we were that day in terms of personnel, mindset and style of play.”

Striker Dan Hattersley will miss the game after his sending off in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Barwell, while midfielder Lewis Codling is doubtful after picking up a knock in the same game.
