WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden has urged his side to take confidence into Saturday’s trip to Barwell, kick off 3pm.

Following Tuesday’s 2-0 home defeat to Spennymoor Town, Yellows dropped out of the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-off places on goal difference.

Whitby Town jumped above them but the race for the end-of-season shake-up is incredibly tight, with Yellows being one of seven teams being separated by just six points.

However, Carden has told his players to put Tuesday’s disappointment to the back of their minds for the trip to Kirkby Road on Saturday.

“We’ve given a chance to stay in and around the play-offs with the run we’ve been on,” he said.

“That’s credit to the lads and I’ve told them not to be too downbeat. We are capable of going on another run.

“We need to take it one game at a time, there is no point in looking beyond the next game and that becomes the biggest game of the season for us.

“That’s been the case with every game we’ve played in the past few weeks.

“There’s no doubt we’re going to a team who are a bit awkward and physical but we’ve got to go there with confidence.

“We’ve built that confidence in the run that we’d been on before Spennymoor and we can’t lose that.”

Glen Taylor struck twice on Tuesday to ensure Spennymoor left Cantilever Park with a precious three points and ended Yellows five-match winning run.

The final game of that sequence was Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Hednesford Town in which Mitch Duggan scored a long-range effort and keeper Tony McMillan saved a penalty in the game’s dying minutes.

Carden has a few injury worries ahead of Saturday’s game, with Scott Harries (ankle) and Dan Hattersley (back) doubtful while Ruben Jerome (also ankle) was forced off in the second half of Tuesday’s game.
