YELLOWS boss Paul Carden says his side need to improve in front of goal if they are to finish the season strongly, starting with Saturday’s trip to Ilkeston, kick off 3pm.

Tuesday’s 4-1 defeat to second-placed Nantwich Town ended a run of four consecutive wins in all competitions for Yellows.

After many of the teams around them had their midweek games postponed, Carden’s side stay 11th in the Evo-Stik Premier Division table, four points away from the play-off places.

However, the Yellows boss says his side must start being clinical with their chances if they are to return to winning ways.

“One of the areas we have to improve upon is our goalscoring,” he said.

“We are snatching at chances at the moment and not hitting the target enough.

“If you look at Tuesday night, Connor McCarthy has dragged a shot wide, Scott Harries has put one over and Ruben Jerome has hit the crossbar.

“All of them were well-placed to score and it could have changed the game.

“We are creating chances but we just need that little bit of composure in front of goal.”

Warrington travel to the New Manor Ground to face an Ilkeston side struggling to avoid relegation.

“There are no easy games at this level. I don’t think many people would have predicted Skelmersdale winning away at Workington on Tuesday,” he said.

“They are in a scrap for their lives but we’ve got to focus on ourselves.

“We need to improve in the areas we’ve highlighted. If we do that, I’m confident we can come away with a good result.

“The conditions could play a part as well, they can be a leveller in these games and we have to be wary of that.”

A LOOK AT THE OPPOSITION:

YELLOWS will be favourites to bounce back from their midweek defeat against their relegation-threatened hosts.

The Robins have as many as four games in hand on their rivals, but the 10-point gap between them and safety makes demotion from the Evo-Stik Premier Division likely.

Much of the problem lies in attack having only scored a meagre 23 goals this season, by far the lowest total in the division.

They have appointed Shaun Goater, a former Manchester City striker and Bermudan international, as their new manager and his first game saw them beat fellow strugglers Sutton Coldfield 1-0.

That victory ended a winless run that stretched back to November and kept their hopes of avoiding the drop just about alive.

LAST MEETING:

Warrington Town 4 Ilkeston 1

Saturday, September 10, 2016:

AFTER exiting the FA Cup at the first hurdle the week before, Town took their frustrations out on the Robins.

Gerard Kinsella, debutant John Shaw and Ben Deegan had all hit the target before half-time to give them a commanding lead.

Anthony Dwyer's goal kept Ilkeston alive, but Ciaran Kilheeney added a fourth Yellows goal late on.
