WARRINGTON Town will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat to Blyth when they travel to Workington on Saturday, kick off 3pm.

Paul Carden’s men surrendered their five-game unbeaten run in the 2-0 loss to the Evo-Stik Premier Division leaders and now start a run of four games in the space of nine days.

Three of those games are away from Cantilever Park, with the first of them coming at Borough Park on Saturday.

Currently sitting 13th in the table, Town could move up to tenth with a victory as they seek to close the gap on the play-off places.

A LOOK AT THE OPPOSITION:

Workington joint-managers Dave Hewson and Lee Andrews are also looking for a response from their side after they were hammered 4-0 by mid-table Mickleover Sports in their last game.

That ended a run of four straight wins for the Cumbrians, with their only previous loss in 2017 coming at the hands of Blyth Spartans.

The Reds have won 10 games at Borough Park this season, which is the joint-most in the division.

ONES TO WATCH:

Workington – Jake Simpson: A former Football League player with Shrewsbury and son of former Preston and Carlisle manager Paul, Simpson provides experience and quality from right-back.

Warrington – Josh Askew: The Blackburn Rovers loanee has been superb in his four appearances since arriving at Cantilever Park, often found overlapping with pace and aggression from the left-back position.

LAST MEETING:

Workington’s visit to Cantilever Park on October 15 proved to be a pivotal one in Yellows’ season.

Elliot Newby put the visitors ahead at the break before Dave Symington’s penalty ensured Mike Grogan’s late strike for Town was immaterial.

Workington won the game 2-1 and it proved to be Town’s final game under the stewardship of co-managers Stuart Mellish and Lee Smith, who parted company with the club after the match.

Warrington’s interest in this season’s FA Cup was also ended by the Cumbrians at the first hurdle in September, with goals from Josh Calvert, Jake Simpson and Scott Allison giving them a 3-0 victory.
