WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden says his side must not be too downbeat about losing their five-match unbeaten run.

The 2-0 home defeat to Evo-Stik Premier Division leaders Blyth Spartans on Tuesday was Yellows’ first since Boxing Day.

Carden’s men now face a league trip to Workington on Saturday, kick off 3pm, followed by a visit to Witton Albion in the Cheshire Senior Cup on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm in a run of four games in nine days and the Yellows boss wants his players to hold their heads high.

“We’ve got to look at Blyth and learn what it takes to win this league,” he said.

“We went toe-to-toe with them, we’re still very young as a team so I’m pleased with how much we are coming on.

“We said at half time that we would cause them problems if we were better with the ball as possession was changing hands too much.

“We were frustrating them into making mistakes but, whenever we won it back, we were giving it straight away again or playing square and backwards when we didn’t need to.

“There’s not a lot in it so we’ve got to be positive, we can’t be too negative and downbeat.”

On-loan Tranmere midfielder Mitch Duggan was substituted early on Tuesday with a hamstring injury, while Michael Monaghan came off later on with the same problem.

Carden says they add to a list of players who may be injury doubts for Saturday’s trip to Cumbria.

“MJ has felt his hamstring and so has Mitch, the way they worked and pressed it’s no coincidence that they’ve got little tweaks,” he said.

“We’ll just have to see how they are, Mitch will go into Tranmere to get some treatment and we’ll have to sort some out for MJ and see how he is.

“Ciaran Kilheeney has had a bit of a knee injury, Sam Ilesanmi has had a hamstring strain, Adam Carden’s had a knock on the side of his knee and we’re still waiting on Danny Hattersley and Sean Williams as well.”
