WARRINGTON Town boss Paul Carden admitted his frustration as the weather put paid to both of their games over the New Year weekend.

Thursday’s clash with Spennymoor Town and Monday’s game against Marine were both postponed as heavy frost took its toll on the Cantilever Park playing surface.

This weekend’s game at Stourbridge is also having to be rescheduled due to The Glassboys’ involvement in the FA Cup Third Round.

“Of course it’s frustrating for us but there’s nothing we can do about it. It is what it is,” Carden said.

“We speak a lot about things we can control but one thing we can’t control is the weather.

“It means there’s certain players sitting on suspensions that are dragging on for longer and longer. Mitch Duggan still has two games of a ban left and Jay McCarten will still have one game to miss.

“We were a little bit ahead in terms of games played anyway so I guess things will level themselves out.

“These things happen at this time of year and we have to get on with it.”

By the time their next game at Corby Town comes around on Saturday, January 14, Yellows will not have played a game for nearly three weeks.

However, Carden was keen to take the positives from their extended break.

“It gives us a chance to look at a few things in greater detail and fix a few areas of concern,” he said.

“We’re a few bodies down, particularly in centre midfield so we need to make progress on that front.

“Sean Williams has a broken bone in his foot, Ged Kinsella has a back problem and Eddie Toner has had some personal problems which mean he wouldn’t have been involved over New Year.

“The only fit centre midfielder we have at the moment is Danny Ventre, so I’ll be looking at getting a couple of new faces in.”

Another area Carden says he needs to recruit in is at left-back after Rory McKeown left the club.

The 23-year-old has taken up the offer of a deal with National League outfit Southport and Carden says his departure was always a risk.

The Yellows boss also said there was interest in the Irishman from clubs in the Football League and Scotland.

“We knew when we got Rory in that he wouldn’t be around for long but we’re now without a recognised left-back,” he said.

“There has been a lot of interest in him. He had offers from Blackpool and from St Mirren up in Scotland as well.

“We knew Southport wanted him and when the St Mirren offer came in, I told them they needed to offer him something.

“He went down to train with them and played on New Year’s Day. It’s a good move for Rory and we wish him all the best.”
