Warrington Town 2 Rushall Olympic 0.

PAUL Carden scored his first victory as Warrington Town boss on Saturday as his side saw off high-flying Rushall Olympic.

Skipper Ciaran Kilheeney gave the Yellows the lead just before half-time before an own goal from Henry Eze made the result safe late on.

The result meant Carden’s side stayed in touch with the play-off pack in the Evo-Stik Premier Division and they sit five points behind Buxton in the final play-off spot.

The visitors started well, with Alex Reid forcing a save from Yellows keeper Tony McMillan before Andy Nicholas was well-placed to clear a shot from the same player off the line with the keeper beaten.

Kilheeney slipped and fired over after Scott Metcalfe’s effort was cleared off the line as the hosts got a foothold in the game.

Town’s captain wasn’t kept quiet for long and he made no mistake from Metcalfe’s cross to edge them ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Chances were at a premium after the break, but the introduction of Sam Ilesanmi from the bench gave Carden’s men some impetus.

Danny Hattersley failed to convert a good opportunity before Eddie Toner had an effort saved as the hosts looked to make the game safe.

The crucial second goal arrived when man-of-the-match Mitch Duggan’s shot was scuffed into his own net by Eze.

Town are back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, when they travel to Ashton United in the League Cup, kick off 7.45pm.

Their next league game comes on Saturday when they welcome Barwell to Cantilever Park, kick off 3pm.
