Rushall Olympic 2 Warrington Town 2
WARRINGTON produced a stunning comeback to snatch a creditable draw against high-flying Rushall Olympic on Tuesday night.
Beset by injuries and suspensions, caretaker managers Steve Hayes and Andy McCann saw their team fall behind early when Alex Reid, the Evo-Stik Premier Division’s top goalscorer, headed into the top corner as the Yellows failed to deal with a free-kick.
The returning Karl Wills saved well to deny Reid a second, before defenders Jon Shaw and Jay McCarten had headers cleared off the line at the other end.
However, it was the Pics who got the second goal before the break when a poor clearance from Pete Wylie fell kindly for Jordan Fitzpatrick to smash home.
Town had a mountain to climb after the break but they set about their task, with Tom Peers scuffing a shot wide before Ciaran Kilheeney had a goal ruled out.
They did pull one back when Steven Gillespie’s ball in caused chaos and substitute Conor Speed poked home from close range.
The comeback was complete in the last minute of normal time when another goalmouth scramble ended with Mike Grogan slamming into the roof of the net, his third goal in as many games.
Warrington: Wills, O’Donnell (Lenighan 51), Nicholas (Edgerton 86), Gillespie, McCarten, Shaw, Wylie (Speed 72), Grogan, Kilheeney, Peers, Harries. Subs not used: Hayes, Knight.
