Warrington Town 0 Whitby Town 1.

TOWN slipped to a second home defeat in four days after Whitby left Cantilever Park with a narrow victory.

The visitors dominated possession without creating much in the way of chances until Dale Hopson’s deflected second-half winner.

The Yellows huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser, but succumbed to their third consecutive defeat.

Playing in a 3-5-2 formation allowed Whitby to almost monopolise possession and the hosts struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Michael Roberts had two half-chances in the first half for the visitors, while Scott Metcalfe had a free-kick saved.

The deadlock was broken just after the hour when Roberts laid the ball into the path of Hopson, whose shot beat Karl Wills in the Warrington goal with the aid of a deflection.

Town boss Stuart Mellish threw on striker Ben Deegan in an effort to find an equaliser and it resulted in a period of Warrington pressure as the big striker twice had crosses from the left narrowly evading his run.

The biggest chance came in the final minute when Deegan’s flick-on put Scott Harries through on goal, but he dragged his shot wide.
