WARRINGTON Town winger Chris Gahgan has decided to leave his hometown club.

The Orford-based winger was a key part of the team that won promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League for the first time but has taken up an offer to play for Colwyn Bay.

The Welsh side will swap divisions with Town next season after they suffered relegation and manager Stuart Mellish says an offer was made to Gahgan to stay at the club, but he decided the travel commitments of a higher division may be a bit much for him.

“This was a difficult decision for Chris, we had a long conversation on Thursday where I outlined the plans for the coming season,” Mellish said.

“He was really excited to be part of my plans but he advised that he has been courted for numerous weeks by Colwyn Bay.

“The extra demand we have on travelling next year and Chris’s work commitments made the interest of Colwyn something Chris would like to pursue.”

The midfielder has made over 250 appearances for the Yellows, scoring 88 goals including a last-gasp equaliser against his new side during the famous FA Cup run of 2014/15.

“Gahgs has been a pleasure to know and work with during his time at the club, he has given me 100 per cent week in week out, season in season out,” Mellish said.

“He should quite rightly be remembered as one of the best players to have represented Warrington Town Football Club.”

Meanwhile, the Yellows have confirmed they will face local rivals Widnes FC in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, July 26.
