Spennymoor Town 2 Warrington Town 3
WARRINGTON Town ended their championship-winning campaign with a win away to their nearest challengers Spennymoor Town.
Goalkeeper Karl Wills saved a long-range free kick late on as Town held on to a lead that had been assembled in the opening 19 minutes.
Strikes from Stephen Gillespie (6mins), Scott Metcalfe (8mins) and Ben Deegan (19mins) put the Yellows in control and maintained the record of Town having scored in every league game during the 2015-2016 season.
Goals in response by Gavin Cogdon in the 23rd and 62nd minutes ensured the outcome was in the melting pot until the final whistle in front of 514 supporters at The Brewery Field.
Yellows could have gone 4-1 ahead in the 31st minute but Gillespie had a penalty saved by Mark Bell.
Town finish 15 points clear of runners-up Spennymoor, courtesy of their 34th win from 42 games – a campaign that included only four defeats.
Northwich Victoria, Glossop North End and Burscough – the only team to complete a league double over the Yellows – join Spennymoor in the play-offs to ascertain which team will be promoted alongside Town.
