WARRINGTON Town are 19 points clear at the top of Evo-Stik First Division North after a stunning 9-0 win at Droylsden tonight.

Spennymoor Town, 9-0 victors themselves at home to bottom side New Mills, are now second with three games in hand.

Northwich Victoria, tonight defeated 3-0 in the Cheshire Senior Cup semi finals at Stockport County and four games behind the Yellows, are now 22 points adrift in third place following a nine points deduction for fielding an ineligible player.

Town, bouncing back from Saturday’s loss at Northwich, came close to recording double figures at Droylsden. Ben Deegan had a goal disallowed for offside and Scott Metcalfe hit the crossbar in another close call.

Skipper Ceiran Kilheeney and Chris Gahgan had no such problems making their efforts count, each bagging a hat-trick on a night Yellows keeper Karl Wills collected his 20th clean sheet of the campaign.

Gahgan was on hand to slam home the seventh-minute opener after Kilheeney’s initial shot was saved.

Three minutes later Gahgan got off the mark after Droylsden again paid the price for carelessness with the ball in defence.

A tap-in from close range from Gahgan rewarded Metcalfe’s low cross in the 18th minute.

Metcalfe then beat the keeper after stealing possession but his effort hit the crossbar.

The dangerous winger’s work continued to bear fruit though, with another of his low crosses being turned in by Kilheeney in the 27th minute.

Droylesden came closest to opening their account when Michael Pino hit the post from the edge of the area.

Although Deegan’s 43rd minute attempt was cancelled for offside, goal number five came moments later when Ali Brown found the net.

Gahgan completed his hat-trick six minutes into the second half after Ged Kinsella’s volley was saved.

Town’s last three goals came in the closing few minutes.

Phil Dean cut in from the left for goal number seven and then he was brought down in the box to allow Kilheeney to pot his second from the penalty spot.

Kilheeney won the race to Gahgan’s pass over the top to complete the rout.
