WARRINGTON Town boss Stuart Mellish will not entertain the idea his side will be champions until it is a mathematical certainty.

The Yellows head to second-placed Northwich Victoria on Saturday with a 13-point advantage in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North.

But Vics hold three games in hand, and Mellish will not consider Town’s Cheshire rivals out of the title race even if his side win at Wincham Park this weekend.

“It would put us in a strong position,” he explained. “But it’s not mathematically impossible.

"Until it’s completely out of the question then I’m not going to talk about winning the league.

“We are in a very strong position, but I take nothing for granted. We go into every game with confidence, but also respect our opponents.”

Town collected six points to Vics' one in league fixtures this week, scoring 10 goals in the process.

“It’s all about attitude, hard work and desire and they have to be at the top level,” added Mellish. “It’s not a question of ability, because we can match anybody.

“We have got to continue to provide the performance levels that we have over the past three weeks and the players know that’s what I demand.

“I have taken charge at times when Shaun (Reid) was away so the players have known me for years.

"Nothing changes, it’s still the same expectation.”

Town have not conceded a league goal since Mellish took charge three games ago.

“Clean sheets are massive and once you get your back four and defence right you are going to win a lot more games,” he added.

“We are a side that will always create opportunities.

"I tell the players ‘in our own half you do what I say, once you get over the line you have the freedom to express yourself’.

“The players are starting to express themselves now.”
