SHAUN Reid says a health scare has given him a different perspective on management after returning to the dugout with his Warrington Town side in top form.

The Yellows, winners of an Evo-Stik Club of the Month award for September, extended their run without a loss to eight games thanks to a 2-1 victory at Ossett Town in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Ben Deegan and Ally Brown goals made it seven wins in an unbeaten spell that started when Reid was taken ill during a comeback win at Trafford in August.

The former Rochdale midfielder spent several nights in hospital with a burst blood vessel in his neck.

“It was a bit of a scare to me but it could have happened walking down the street,” he explained. “It’s happened and you just have to get on with it now.

“I’m still not fully fit, I can’t join in training yet. It’s new for me because I have always joined in, but you see more when you step back and evaluate things.

“I’ve seen things differently, so I’ve learned from it and things are going well.

“The team showed me their character in the game I was taken ill. That win kick-started our form and sometimes it takes something like that to kick-start your season.

“We will keep pushing and driving on.”

Third-placed Town now turn their attention to home games with Harrogate Railway on Saturday before Droylsden visit Cantilever Park on Tuesday.

“I want to take six points from our next two homes games,” added Reid. “If we can do that it takes us to 10 unbeaten with nine wins – that’s championship form.

“I have got to be confident but the one thing we won’t be doing is getting carried away with it. We are not Real Madrid or Arsenal, we do things the way we do them and get results.

“It’s the best form this club has ever been in. We had a run of 17 games unbeaten in my second season, but there were quite a few draws in that.”

Reid admits he has had to shuffle to find his best side this season.

"Chris Gahgan forced his way in," he said. "He’s not the youngest in the squad but is certainly one of the most consistent performers.

"Daniel O’Donnell at centre half, he came in through injury and has been outstanding. Jay McCarten has stepped up to the plate and is leading a back four that has only conceded one goal in four games.

"The keeper (Karl Wills) has been brilliant as well, he kept four clean sheets before the penalty on Saturday.

"Sometimes it just clicks and when it does take shape you have to build on that confidence."
