GIANTKILLERS turned into slayed Goliaths today as Warrington Town bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup against lower-league opponents at the preliminary round stage.

Shaun Reid's side, who famously reached the first round for the first time last year and knocked out Football League opponents Exeter City live on BBC TV, were beaten 3-2 at North West Counties League Premier Division outfit Abbey Hey this afternoon.

Two goals in the 27th minute from Steven Gillespie and Craig Robins put Town 2-1 ahead but after a 51st minute equaliser for the hosts Jay McCarten's 59th-minute own goal sealed the Yellows' fate.

This disappointing outcome follows hot on the heels of the 4-1 thumping at Burscough in Evo-Stik League First Division North on Tuesday.

The Yellows visit Trafford in the league on Monday, kick off 3pm.
