THE door has only just slammed shut on the 2014-15 season, but Shaun Reid’s plans to seal promotion with Warrington Town next year are well underway.

The Yellows boss, along with chairman Toby Macormac, has ticked off a number of signings and is working on securing friendlies with Football League opposition.

Meanwhile, pitch renovations are also taking place at Cantilever Park.

“That’s what we’ve aimed to do this season and we have got four or five of the players we targeted,” said Reid, whose squad return to pre-season training on July 2.

“We wanted to shake it up a little bit as we’re looking for promotion and the one thing you have to do in football is improve year on year.

“After the play-offs two years ago and a bit of disappointment last year, which was understandable with our cup commitments, we felt it was time to freshen up.

“We want to stretch ourselves in pre-season and have the best chance of starting the league on form.”

Striker Ciaran Kilheeney has returned to the club and Reid is aiming to improve Town’s attacking threat with former Colchester, Cheltenham, Bristol City and Altrincham man Steven Gillespie.

Ex-Bolton defender Alex McQuade has also signed, along with right back Ally Brown, while youth team players Liam Turner and Ben Collins will have a chance to impress the boss.

“We're looking to improve. We’ve brought in good players and players who will score goals in Kilheeney and Gillespie, while Ben Wharton is still at the club,” explained Reid.

“Ciaran left the club for personal reasons as his wife was having a baby. I’m a big admirer of Ciaran and it’s a pleasure to bring him in.

“Gillespie, for a player of his calibre to come to us is great for me and the chairman. The two new strikers will give us options.

“McQuade is a tall boy, ex-Bolton, who still hopes to become a professional and feels a move to us will help him achieve that.

“It’s a big plus that players who are wanting to break into the professional ranks will come to us." as a route to getting back.

Ally Brown has pace to burn, him and Liam Turner will fight it out for the right back spot as Lewis Field has gone to Australia.

We’re looking to build the club on youth and experience. Reid added: "Turner and Collins are both Warrington lads, both absolutely smashing, and the future is bright.

"It’s very important that we don’t lose sight of our home grown players and that’s something we’re aiming to do over the next few years, get them into the squad.

"Five or six will train with me on a regular basis and play in some friendlies, so I’ll get to have a look at them."

However, Louis Corrigan, Tom Hardwick, Lewis Field, Anthony Hickey, Stephen Tames and Robbie Booth have all left the club.
