CRAIG Robinson's FA Cup heroics etched his name into Warrington Town folklore, but the club's vice-skipper is determined to pay fans back with a trophy after the Yellows missed out on promotion this season.

Town face Farsley in the Doodson Sport Cup final at Stockport County’s Edgeley Park on Thursday in a 7.45pm kick off.

Robinson grabbed the headlines when he scored the only goal in Town’s famous first round win over League Two outfit Exeter City in November at Cantilever Park.

However the defender is happy to step out of the limelight on Thursday, as long as Shaun Reid’s side end their 14-year wait for a trophy.

“There might be another cup hero,” said Robinson. “But it’s not about personal things – it’s about giving something back to the club and the fans after the disappointment of missing out on promotion.

“Personally, I feel like we’ve let the club down a little bit because the play-offs were our aim. We’re disappointed our league form has not been the same as our cup form.

“Hopefully we can go out and create some more history.”

Supporters have made 32-year-old Robinson well aware of Town’s last silverware, the 2001 NWCL Second Division title, and he believes a cup final win would represent a sign of the club's continued progress.

“It’s been mentioned numerous times and people who have supported the club for many years have made us aware,” he added.

“The club has great ambitions and these cup runs, breaking records, can only help.”

Robinson admits the FA Cup, which saw Town play nine times en route to a second-round defeat at Gateshead, may have affected the Yellows’ promotion bid.

The defender would not swap that run nor wishes to use it as an excuse, despite experiencing first hand the injuries and suspensions that built up in the squad, and he hopes to remain at Cantilever Park to ‘finish the job’ next season.

“It’s still early,” he explained. “One or two things have been mentioned about me staying and I’ve loved being with the club.

“From my point of view I want to help the club get promoted. We’ve had great success and I want to finish that off – promotion was the aim when I arrived.”

Tickets for Thursday's final can be bought on the gate.
