FANS are being urged to create an atmosphere like at the FA Cup giant-killing of Exeter City during the Yellows’ Doodson Sport Cup semi final on Tuesday.

Warrington Town host higher-ranked Ilkeston at Cantilever Park in the competition’s last four, kick off 7.45pm.

Town Supporters’ Club chairman Rob Wood is anticipating another ‘special’ cup night.

“This time we go into the game as the underdogs, playing against a team in the play off places in the division above,” said Wood.

“But, as we have already shown this season, we lift our game when we need to.

“As against Exeter, we will need the people of Warrington to get behind us once again to create one of those special Cantilever Park cup atmospheres that I have witnessed a handful of times in my 23 years following Town home and away.”

This will be the Yellows’ first semi final on home soil since they beat Nelson en route to North West Counties League Division Two Cup glory in 2000.

Neal Holden netted twice in a 3-2 aggregate win, before scoring another brace in the final for a 2-0 win over Tetley Walker.

“I personally cannot wait for the game, as I am acutely aware of how rare this kind of night is for Town,” added Wood.

“I know if we can keep it tight early on, or even grab a goal and put them under pressure, then the crowd will play their part.

“If we reach the final, which we did in 1993, I am sure that this will be yet another unforgettable occasion in what has been a very memorable and unforgettable season.”

Shaun Reid will welcome back vice captain and Fa Cup goalscoring hero Craig Robinson after suspension.

Wood continued: “I know that Robbo will be itching to play and to give a great performance, whether he will be selected will be up to manager Shaun Reid.”
