NOTHING will wipe the smile off Shaun Reid’s face if his Warrington Town side continue the form that has seen them go unbeaten this year.

The Yellows made it three league wins from five games in 2015 when they beat Lancaster City on Saturday, leapfrogging their Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North visitors in the process.

Included in that unbeaten run are draws with promotion hopefuls Northwich Victoria and Harrogate Railway, while Town visit another play-off rival this weekend.

Reid now takes his side to fifth-placed Spennymoor Town knowing a result will boost further the positive mood at Cantilever Park.

“We’re on the right track but we’re not going to get carried away,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll have a big smile on my face come 5pm on Saturday.

“It’s important we maintain the positivity around the place and that comes from playing against good sides. I’m looking forward to it.

“Saturday becomes the priority as we’re on a run now and want that to continue.

“As the confidence grows, these games against good sides are great – they’re the ones you enjoy as a manager or a player.

“It’s been a strange season with the FA Cup run, which was phenomenal and may never happen again, but the players are now back to it in the league.”

Town, who also host New Mills on Tuesday, will welcome back experienced figures Craig Robinson and skipper David Mannix on Saturday after suspension.

“We have Robbo and Manno back, who are two big characters, so they will add something to us as well,” added Reid.

However Warrington will be without goalkeeper Karl Wills next month when he serves a suspension as punishment for his dismissal at the weekend.

Town were 2-0 up at the time after Chris Gahgan continued his fine run of form with a first-half opener from Scott Metcalfe’s delivery.

Metcalfe beat his man before picking out his teammate, who chested down and fired right-footed into the corner.

The pair combined again for the Yellows’ second, with Gahgan hauled down in the area and Metcalfe stepping up to convert the resulting penalty.

The hosts rode their luck on occasions too, with the Dolly Blues hitting the woodwork three times.

Wills was then shown a red card with 20 minutes remaining after handling outside the area, leaving forward Dean Astbury to don the gloves.

Astbury was beaten once, when Aaron Taylor scored at the back post, but Reid praised the new arrival for stepping forward.

“It was a strong, organised performance against a very good side,” said Reid.

“Karl will miss one game, but Robbie Johnson, who played against Rushall in the league cup, will come in and do a job.

“I was trying to organise who would go in goal after the sending off and didn’t want to unsettle the back four. Ben Wharton looked a bit sheepish, but Astbury said he would do it.

“That shows character. I don’t think he’s got a future as a keeper, but he’s been a breath of fresh air since he’s come in.”
