MORE than 900 Warrington Town fans transformed the Gateshead International Stadium into a cauldron of noise on Sunday but there were also many supporters across the town who watched the dramatic turn of events unfold.

Pubs did their bit to make it an occasion to remember, with the Saracens Head, on Wilderspool Causeway, inviting supporters to watch and even gave away scarves and limited editions Town shirts.

The Hatton Arms, on Hatton Lane, also played their part by offering punters free chip butties during the half-time interval of the encounter.

Fans Joe Hollis and Chris Slater, who both live in the town centre, opted to watch the crunch clash live on BT Sport in the comfort of their flat.

Although it was an occasion to savour, Joe, originally from Bewsey, admitted that seeing the Yellows go down to a crushing defeat was difficult to take.

"It was quite devastating really - everyone had belief but unfortunately we just couldn't get the equaliser after going 1-0 down, and then we lost concentration," said the 22-year-old.

However, Joe, who also follows Premier League outfit Everton, was pleasantly surprised with the amount of noise coming from the away end, which was made up of 906 travelling fans.

"The crowd were excellent and I could hear them clearly at home through the TV - they were louder than Everton fans are," added the former Bridgewater High School pupil.

"It has been a great little cup run and hopefully we can have another one like this next year to help keep the spirit in the club alive."
