IT has been clear to see that the performances of Shaun Reid’s troops on the pitch have captured the imagination of football and rugby fans in the town alike.

In a rugby league dominated area, there has been little room for manoeuvre for Warrington Town fans in recent years but Warrington Wolves fans believe the FA Cup run could be the start of a budding relationship between the sports.

Although the Wolves have been an established top-tier outfit for a considerable amount of time, the belief is that it may not be too long before the Yellows begin to make major movements.

“It has been great to see the rugby fans give the football club the support,” said 22-year-old Will Smith, who has watched his beloved Wire since the days playing at Wilderspool Stadium.

“The FA Cup run shows that the town could have top-flight rugby team and a well followed football team.

“Hopefully a few more rugby fans can continue to give the football club more support to try to help get them into the Football League as planned.”

Fellow Wolves fan, Tom Courtney-Smith, aged 23, from Appleton, is also adamant that rugby league fans in Warrington will begin to take more interest in the town’s football side but insists it will be difficult to ever match the popularity of the game.

“After the cup run I will definitely be looking out more for their results,” he said.

Tom, who has had a Wolves season ticket for 10 years, added: “I think the whole town came together really well to support Warrington Town.”

“But I have to say that rugby still comes first.”
