WARRINGTON South MP David Mowat insists Warrington Town will reap the benefits for their heroic FA Cup for years to come.

Mr Mowat, who is also a club director, eagerly watched Sunday’s second-round encounter against Gateshead, though after witnessing the 2-0 defeat, he hailed the Yellows for all they have achieved.

The MP has previously called for the government to pressurise the Football Association to increase the amount of revenue given to non-league sides.

“The FA Cup run has captured the town’s imagination,” he said.

“In the pubs of Warrington, the talk is now about Warrington Town and not Manchester United or Liverpool.

“For everyone who has been involved with the club, it was heartening to see a packed-out ground for the Exeter match.

“If just 10 per cent of those who came to their first ever Warrington Town match come back again, that will make a massive difference to the club.”

As prices continually inflate in the top tiers of English football, Mr Mowat admitted that now is as good a chance as ever for the whole club to develop.

“With many football enthusiasts turning away from the big clubs because of the ever-increasing cost of tickets, there is a tremendous opportunity to build a strong, loyal fan base, which is the bedrock of success for any club,” he added.
