SHAUN Reid is preparing another FA Cup giant-killing master plan as Warrington Town bid to claim a fifth higher-ranked scalp.

The Yellows boss was on a scouting mission on Tuesday night, witnessing Gateshead win 2-1 at Alfreton in the Conference.

Reid now knows facing Sunday’s opponents on their home patch poses a different challenge to Exeter City’s visit to Cantilever Park in the first round.

“I got to know a few weaknesses in their side and what their strengths are, so it’s up to me to put a plan together this week to combat that,” said the 49-year-old.

“Alfreton gave them respect but I’m going to make sure we get in their faces. We’ll be direct and they will know they have been in a game.

“It’s a tough ask for my players. The pitch was a leveller against Exeter at our place, but they have a decent surface and look to get the ball down and pass it – don’t underestimate us when we have the ball either.

“We are away from home, but we’ve been away before in this competition. The pressure is on them.”

Town are without suspended Ben Wharton and cup-tied new signing Steven Tames, but enjoy an otherwise injury-free squad.

Reid can also call on returning first round goal-scoring hero Craig Robinson and prolific new forward Lee Gaskell, who opened his Yellows account against Ossett Albion on Saturday.

“It’s unfortunate for Ben, but he has a bit of a knock anyway. It’s not about the starting 11 now it’s about 18 or 19 players,” explained Reid.

“We’ve made the two additions, both proved what quality they have. Gaskell got off to a good start and is up and running, he looks the part.

“Robbo is an experienced player and I’ll be looking to all our experienced players on Sunday. It’s pleasing to have Robbo back as all the players look up to him and he’s important to us in the dressing room.

“We’re looking ok on the injury front so we go into the weekend with nothing too serious hopefully. If they can’t get over a little niggle for the FA Cup second round then they might as well bin them boots!”

Town train at Cantilever Park on Saturday morning before travelling to the north east in the afternoon ahead of a noon kick off on Sunday.

“We’ll get there, I’ll tuck the boys off to bed for a good night’s sleep and they’ll be ready for a battle,” said Reid.

“It’s the FA Cup, we’d play it at 3am as long as we are there. This is what we dream about as players, a manager, a club and a town.

“My players will give it everything. I want to get in the third round for the lads like Ben who are missing out.

“Those things will inspire the lads before kick off and then it’s up to them.

We’ve got further than some Football League clubs and that’s an achievement in itself. As long as they give it their all and have no regrets, I can’t complain.”
